Nooks
Founded in 2013 by husband and wife team Louis Philippe Lavoie and Ruthy Penner, Nooks Design began with a need for warm and cozy booties for their daughter Anouk. Lavoie and Penner were inspired to make them with the abundance of discarded wool sweaters they found at local thrift stores in Kelowna, British Columbia. And thus, Nooks (short for Anouk’s booties) was born!
In 2018, Nooks Design expanded to hand-knit cardigans made from 100% soft Merino wool and finished with hand-made wood buttons. They source their mulesing-free merino wool from New Zealand and collaborate with a Fair Trade-certified team based in Nepal to make their cardigans, offering training, a dignified workplace, and fair wages to victims of exploitation.
Nooks Design remains a small family-owned business working out of a studio on the sunny shores of Okanagan Lake in Kelowna, where they continue to focus on making timeless designs from natural materials.
